Lyme Hall, Cheshire - cyanotype print
'Lyme Hall' is an original cyanotype / solar print, printed onto Snowdon paper.
We are very lucky to have this special place just down the road from us. It is an historic and beautiful stately home, with stunning gardens and 1400 acres of wild parkland. It was owned by the same family, the Leghs, for nearly 600 years, and is now owned & managed by the National Trust.
The South Front, overlooking the gardens and the lake, is an iconic and much photographed view. It will be recognisable to many as Mr Darcy's home, Pemberley, in the BBC's adaptation of Pride & Prejudice.
Cyanotypes use the power of UV light with light-sensitive chemicals, to produce a beautiful Prussian Blue print. Here, I have used a manipulated photo negative (one of my own photos) to create a mask where the light cannot get to. The masked areas that are protected from the sun remain white, with the exposed areas reacting with the sunlight to turn Prussian blue.
This is an open edition, signed by me as the artist.
